Anime is undeniably one of the most common trademark for Japan. According to Wikipedia, Anime in English usually refers to a style of animation originating in Japan, heavily influenced by the manga (Japanese comics) style and typically featuring characters with large eyes, big hair and elongated limbs, exaggerated facial expressions, brush-stroked outlines, limited motion and other distinctive features.

(1) Mandarake (まんだらけ), Tenjin, Fukuoka
This shop is located in Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka with four storey building full with anime thingy. It has 13 branches located throughout Japan i.e in Nakano, Nagoya, Shibuya, Umeda, Akihabara, Osaka Shinsaibashi, Ikebukuro, Sapporo, Utsunomiya, Kokura, Sawara and of-course Fukuoka .
At the Fukuoka branch you'll find four chock-a-block floors of used manga from sci-fi to teenage romance, crime, medieval sagas and more. The items is divided according to its category :-
- 1st Floor : boys manga and trade-ins on,
- 2nd Floor :- men's adult, vintage and youth manga
- 3rd Floor :- women's adult and girls manga.
- 4th Floor :-manga-related toys, posters and books.
Regular karaoke performances are put on by staff in manga costumes. It is nice to see that the staff of Mandarake will wear manga costumes complete with all the accessories and weird hair colour. No wonder millions of Japanese are manga-obsessed - it's that much fun!. The average manga costs just 200yen, but rare vintage numbers can cost millions.
Do not feel sad if you cannot make it to the shop by yourself as the items sold in the shop can also be bought online! *membeli belah di hujung jari anda ceeewah*. Anime lovers, feel free to feast yourself with all the anime goodies at Mandarake Online shop (click here).
Apparently taking photo inside of the shop is not allowed. That's why there is no picture of us inside the shop huhuhu. Since we went to the place in Saturday, it was packed with people that it make us damn difficult to move around inside the building. We didn't spend so much time inside the shop as baby SN was sleeping and his sleep is a bit distracted with the loud sounds of the cashier's voice.
(2) Basement of Canal City, Hakata, Fukuoka
Canal City Hakata is a shopping complex comprising a great variety of business and leisure facilities including a shopping mall, a movie theater, amusement facilities, two hotels, showrooms and corporate offices, all together creating a “city theater”. This is an entertainment city where anyone from any country can get together, have fun and relax anytime in any season. I have wrote about this mall in the previous entry last year *refer : Hakata Gion Yamakasa(click here)*.
The anime shops in Canal City is located on the basement floor which offers about 7 shops that have variety of items related to manga and animation are available. There were :-
(i) JUMP SHOP : | Character Goods, Sweets, Figures
(ii) Pokemon Center Fukuoka : | Character Goods, Sweets, Game Software
(iii) Sanrio : | Character Goods, Sweets, Clothing
(iv) 福家書店 : | Comics, Fashion Magazines, Books, Stationeries
(v) HMV : | CD/DVD | |
(vi) TAITO STATION : | Amusement Area (arcade games, etc)
(vii) Disney store : | Character Goods, Sweets |
We spend some time to tour inside those shops but end up not buying anything as the prices is quiet expensive. Imagine the cheapest price for a piece of Naruto t-shirt cost about 3000¥ (RM112) huhuhu *tak kuasa la mak nak perabih duit gitu sekali utk sehelai baju t-shirt jer nyah*. Besides that, both hubby and I are not really a big fan of any anime. *refer: bertemu Anime Punggung Seksi(click here)*
End up, we performed our usual routine that is ..... cam-whoring *apa lagi kan? posing je kije nye, beli barang nya tak eheh*. There are Naruto team and also Ultraman figure to pose with. Baby SN seem delighted to be able to pose with those figures that it is so difficult to make him static and to look at the camera as he was busy "exploring" those figures huhuhu.
