Kaki Gori tak setanding ABC

Hari ini rasa nak bercerita pasal salah satu dessert kat Jepun ni yang cuma di jual di musim panas iaitu KAKI GORI, baca betul2 ye..bukan kaki kena gari OK!.

Kakigōri (かき氷) is a Japanese shaved ice dessert flavored with syrup and sometimes condensed milk. Senang cerita, KAKI GORI = Ais Batu Campur (ABC) kat Malaysia. Tapi Kaki Gori tak ada segala mak nenek inti macam ABC kat Malaysia, sebaliknya ia cuma ada pelbagai perisa sahaja.

Popular flavors include strawberry, cherry, lemon, green tea, grape, melon, "Blue Hawaii," sweet plum, and colorless syrup. Some shops provide colorful varieties by using two or more different syrups. Kaki Gori is famous during summer as the hot humidity of the Japan summer afternoon started to take its toll. Masa musim2 lain memang lah payah nak jumpa, ko gila tengah sejuk2 nak makan AIS???? *ayat ponen sangat, bunyi macam Azwan Ali dah gatai hahaha*.

The traditional way of making kakigōri uses a hand cranked machine to spin a block of ice over an ice shaving blade. Even though electric ice shavers are most often used, street vendors can still be seen hand-shaving ice blocks in the summer. Kebanyakan hand cracked machine ni chomeyl gila, sumpah tak tipu kawaiii sangat. If korang berminat nak beli, kawan I ada jual; check it out at ZH shop.

First time kitorang makan kaki gori ialah 2 tahun lepas masa pergi jalan2 tengok ladang Sunflower kat Yanagawa. SN pun baru2 umur 1 tahun 3 bulan masa tu, tapi dah pandai makan shaved ice tu hehehe.

=- menikmati kaki-gori perisa orange in August 2008 -=

I’ve been wishing for more kakigori every since.  So last week we went to a shop nearby to our home and ordered this mouthful kaki gori in ichigo (strawberry) &mango flavours.  Tapi masa kitoang pergi tu actually dah malam and hari tu pulak hujan. So tak feeling sangatlah makan kaki gori di kala hujan kan, dah sah2 sejuk. Hubby siap cakap it had gave him headaches if he eats too much of kaki gori masa sejuk2 tu; so indirectly TERPAKSA mak buyong yang habiskan. SN pun tak makan banyak sangat so mak buyong tak toleh kiri kanan...scoop the spoon into the kaki gori..nyum nyum slurp...aghhhh nikmatnya!.

So if you get to visit Japan during the summer season don't forget to try this famous Japanese dessert. But to tell you the truth, kelazatan ABC berganda2 lagi best dari Kaki Gori ni.

Pssssttt : rindu kat pipi tembam SN masa kecik, sekarang dah tak gebu.tak best nak cubit.

Luncheon session at Shokudo

http://www.murabbi.net/images/smiley/assalamualaikum.gif
One of my routine for the past 5 years was to prepare packed lunch from home to the campus. I started this 'tradition' of mine when I was doing my master in Munich and Madrid; followed by my PhD here in Kyushu; considering that there's not much variation in food that I can eat at the university cafeteria *concerning to the halal status of the foods sold there*.

Now that I'm in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy, my lunchbox becomes heavier with lots of foods to be taken not only at lunch but I've prepared for at leas 4-5 times meal at the campus. I'll feel hungry every 2-3 hours; if I doesn't eat I'll gets stomach pains and feel nausea.

Thus my latest eating schedule while I was at the university are at 8.15 a.m (breakfast), 10.30 a.m (brunch), 12.30 p.m (lunch), 3 p.m (snack time) and 5.30 p.m (tea time). So, can you imagine how heavy my lunchbox is?. A friend of mine who tried to lift my lunchbox told me that :"your lunchbox is heavier than you"...and I totally agrees with her ihikhik LOL.

+- that's my lunchbox bag ~ full with lots and lots of foods -+

Despite the fact that I bring my own lunch meal to the campus, there are days when I don't feel like eating it. Yes, mind you... pregnant woman is unpredictable like that..sometimes she wants to eat this kind of food, and then within the next 5 minutes she suddenly feels like that food is not delicious enough; so she think she wants another kind of food; but when she gets to eat what she wants; it end up sometimes with vomiting it..hohohoho.

So, when those 'my-packed-lunch-is-not-good-enough' hacked my mind, I'll pay a visit to the university cafeteria a.k.a shokudo (in Jap-language).

+- this is around 3p.m; not during the lunch hour..thus it was almost empty -+

Thankfully list of menus were prepared both in Japanese and English language. All I have to do is just, browse through the list and choose my menu.

+- list of available menu..together with the calories intake for each menu *hamekk kau, nak makan banyak pun rasa bersalah bila tengok jumlah kalori dalam makanan2 tu kan?* -+

After that, I should insert money into the machine and press the number of the menu on the machine. All I have to do then is just to take a small piece of paper from the machine and bring it to the counter to pick up my lunch meal. Phew...lega, adus tak payah susah payah fikir macamana nak order makanan dalam bahasa Jepun ngeee.

Here are some of the menu that I've eaten at the university cafeteria.

+- rice + grilled mackerel. side menu : miso soup + lotus -+

+- udon with fish tempura-+

There's also a 'sky juice' machine where you can drinks the water as much as you want ; be it hot or cold. Not forgetting; there are sinks with hand soap and towels to clean your hand after the meal.

Even though this cafeteria is not as nice as the one in the main campus, I feels the obligation to capture the sweet little moment that I've spent here so that I can look at it again when I've went back to Malaysia later senyumkenyit.

“When people you greatly admire appear to be thinking deep thoughts, they probably are thinking about lunch”

Pssssttt : nasib baik sekarang ni jiran I ada buat perkhidmatan bento jugak. Kalau angin-tak selera-nak-makan-masakan-sendiri menyerang, I order je lunch-set dengan Teez. Oh, somehow I miss Malaysia...banyak gila selection of foods uhuhuuhu.

Tahun ni ramai jugak geng2 Malaysia yang baru sampai, so tak banyak sangatlah kerja yang I kena buat sebab banyak tangan2 lain lagi.

All foods are given for free. Tiba2 rasa pening  adus tengok orang ramai2 kat depan mata, terus I decided untuk ambil angin kat luar.

+- ambil angin kat luar dewan kejap -+

Eh, tapi kan kejap je ambil angin kat luar..then I pun join the crowd untuk beratur ambik makanan jugak. *bukan tadi cakap pening ke kat orang ramai..cett..podaaah, alasan malas jaga counter lah tu jelir*.

+- mula-mula 2 orang je yang datang, OK lagi -+

+- alih2 tiba2..ramai nya manusia -+

+- pinggan dah separa penuh, mata masih melilau cari makanan lain pulak eheh -+

SN was also having a great time during the event. Maklumlah mommy sibuk makan Eating  , daddy pun tak ada nak control dia...seronok lah berlari sana sini main dengan budak2 lain. Dari acara susun bunga sampai la ke acara susun kayu..amboi..bukan main lagi eh.

+- SN di apit dua gadis ayu -+

+- join geng boboy pulak main daun2 kering -+

Overall, to me the event was successful in their intention to explain more about Islam to the non-Muslim committee. We are hoping that the event will somehow contribute to give more knowledge to the non-Muslim on the truth about Islam and who knows, one of them who joined this event will embrace Islam in the future..Insya Allah.

“It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.” Semoga hari kita hari ini lebih baik dari hari semalam..Ameen.

Pssssttt :  Seluruh Jepun akan bercuti panjang minggu depan sempena Golden Week tapi I tak cuti, kerja menimbun + kena pergi conference uwaaa sob sob
