Golden Week's Trip: Day 3 - Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Yosh, mari kita sambung siaran tergendala tentang siri jalan-jalan masa cuti Golden Week hari tu. Hari ni I nak bercerita tentang trip kami ke Hiroshima pulak. On the way balik ke Fukuoka lepas jalan-jalan kat Osaka hari tu, kitorang singgah sekejap kat bandar Hiroshima.

Dianggarkan masa letupan tu terjadi, about 6,500 people lived in the Nakajima district. In addition to the usual inhabitants, thousands of volunteer army corps members and mobilized students were in the area demolishing buildings for a fire lane. Nearly all of these lives were snuffed out as the entire district vanished instantly.

(1) Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome

The Atomic Bomb Dome is one of the most famous monuments in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. It is a symbolic item as a reminder of the devastation that Hiroshima City faced after the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The ruins of what was the Hiroshima Industrial Promotion Hall were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

The Atomic Bomb Dome was a famous attraction of the city even before its ruin and reemergence as a memorial.

On August 5, 1945, the atomic bomb exploded overhead (approximately 150 meters away). The intense downward force of the blast caved in its roof and crushed most of the building. Its sturdy construction, like many contemporary reinforced concrete buildings in Hiroshima City, allowed parts of the exterior walls to remain standing. The intense heat melted the copper roof and bent the supporting steel but the five-story tall tower survived remarkably intact.

(2) Children's Peace Monument

This is a statue dedicated to the memory of the children who died as a result of the bombing. The statue is of a girl with outstretched arms with a folded paper crane rising above her.

+- macam biasa, posing tiru gaya statue -+

The statue is based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who died from radiation from the bomb. She believed that if she folded 1,000 paper cranes she would be cured. *lepas baca kisah Sadako ni baru I tahu tentang asal usul kepercayaan untuk melipat 1000 paper crane kalau ada orang sakit*.

To this day, people (mostly children) from around the world fold cranes and send them to Hiroshima where they are placed near the statue. The statue has a continuously replenished collection of folded cranes nearby.

(3) Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

This museum is the primary museum in the park dedicated to educating visitors about the bomb. The Museum has exhibits and information covering the build up to war, the role of Hiroshima in the war up to the bombing, and extensive information on the bombing and its effects, along with substantial memorabilia and pictures from the bombing.

Tapi kitorang tak sempat nak masuk dalam museum ni sebab masa sampai kat tempat tu, museum dah tutup. Maka sebba itu lah, kami posing beria kat luar tu je.

(4) Zero milestone of Hiroshima City.

+- The sign reads: Zero milestone of Hiroshima City (Zero milestone of Hiroshima Prefecture) -+

The intersection of main overland traffic routes, this point was also used as a main stop in water transport on the Ota river and formed the center of the Hiroshima Castle town. At the time it was also the site of an official bulletin board, and a stable was located nearby along with official lodgings and private inns. As a result, the distance from Hiroshima was always measured from this point.

(5) Memorial Cenotaph

Near the center of the park is a concrete, saddle-shaped monument that covers a cenotaph holding the names of all of the people killed by the bomb. The cenotaph carries the epitaph, "Rest in Peace, for the error shall not be repeated."

Gambar agak blur sebab tak bawak spedlite, malas nak angkut berat-berat si godang tu.

(6) Peace Flame

+- The flame has burned continuously since it was lit in 1964 -+
This is another monument to the victims of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, but it has an additional symbolic purpose. The flame has burned continuously since it was lit in 1964, and will remain lit until all nuclear bombs on the planet are destroyed and the planet is free from the threat of nuclear annihilation.

# Info are gathered from Wikipedia and official site.

Sempat jugak berhenti makan bubur nasi yang kami bawak bekal kat R & R, tapi makan sikit saja sebab dah basi lah pulak bekal kami tu. Nak berhenti makan kat restoran pun, kesian pulak budak-budak kecil bertiga tu dah keletihan. Last-last kami makan buah-buahan je lah dalam kereta sebagai alas perut.

Pssssstttt : Seronok sangat berjalan ke sana sini, tak makan pun takpe ngeh3x.
